The Jewellery Journey

Creating a considered piece of jewellery, or an entire collection, takes many hours of thought, care, and creativity. It all starts with an idea… and a little bit of delusion.

Let's begin at the end of the story. What do I want to achieve? How do I envision the finished piece? From there, I explore the detail and essence of what I want to create, reflect on my values and beliefs, and ask myself who I am speaking to. It is this process that guides me in selecting the specific materials that will bring each creation to life, ones that align with my personal values and vision.

Once the concept and components have taken shape, it's time to consider craftsmanship. This is one of the most important stages of the entire process. I need to ensure I am working with makers who care as deeply about the manufacturing journey as I do, and who align with the brand's core initiatives:

1. Sustainability — With the environment sitting at the heart of the brand's ethos, sustainable sourcing and manufacturing is paramount. This encompasses a wide range of expectations: recycled materials such as gold and brass, ethically sourced materials such as pearl and natural stone, and responsible practices such as water waste recovery during production.
2. Quality — In jewellery making, quality will always come before quantity. The choice of manufacturing territory plays a significant role in this. While some regions prioritise volume — producing hundreds of units by machine with limited individual attention — others, like Italy, take a slower, more considered approach, hand-crafting each component with precision and care.
3. Aesthetic — When selecting a manufacturer, it is essential that they share not only the values of the brand, but its vision. They must be invested not only in the journey of each piece, but in every detail of the final result.

Once I am confident in a supplier's values and capabilities, the next critical step is maintaining clear communication throughout the entire process. From the initial drawing, through to the creation of the hand-crafted mould before production begins, alignment at every stage is essential. Getting the mould absolutely right before moving into production is the most time-intensive part of the process, but also the most important. It is here that all the values, intentions, and creative decisions come together to set the foundation for the final piece.
